When you set off on your adventure to Diamond J, you'll notice how beautiful the drive out is. You might get to even see wild horses on your way. Diamond J is alongside the Red Deer river and nestled in a valley that rests up against the Ya Ha Tinda ranch. Rich in history and culture, it draws out the curious adventurer to this rugged landscape. Explore it on horse back, river raft, try our new tasty restaurant or go for a hike. We also have a venue for events.

Eagle Lake Ride

About 2.5 HR Trail Ride

Daily at 10am. 

Start your day right. This ride goes to Eagle Lake. It crosses a creek and take you to the beautiful mountain fed lake. The water is crystal blue. You are surrounded with 360 degrees mountain views. It is relatively flat and great for all levels of riders.

James Falls Ride

About 4HR Trail Ride

This is a beautiful ride to James Falls. Cross creeks and follow the valley along a beautiful corridor and mountain lake that leads you to this 250m waterfall.

Great for all levels of riders.

Surf 'n Saddle

About 3 HRS

Starts at 11am and ends at 2PM

For the curious adventurer try our Surf 'n Saddle. This experience starts with a horse back ride down the valley towards Big Horn, then we meet up with the raft and float down the Red Deer river on class I and II sections of the river. This will leave you hungry and we'll take you back to our restaurant for a delicious home cook meal. Choose from burgers, wraps or nachos.

 

Leaves daily at 11 AM and it’s approximately three hours long. You start at Diamond J location. Ride horses, float down the Red Deer river. Winding through the mountains, it's gentle enough for your whole family to enjoy and a great introduction to outdoor adventures.

​

We recommend you bring long pants and closed toe shoes for the ride. For the rafting, you can bring a swimming suit/shorts/light shirt, a pair of runners/sandals that can get wet and a towel. You'll be able to change before the rafting trip.

We recommend your bring a water bottle as well. We provide helmets and life jackets.

Before or after your rides, or even if you are just out for a drive, come and sit back in our cozy country style restaurant nestled at the bottom of the mountains. We offer a whole range of homemade treats such as pies and cinnamon buns and locally inspired heritage meals with barbecued steak, ribs and wings. Breakfast, lunch and supper, we serve them all. 

The coffee is always hot and we always have a smile for new and old friends.

Experience an authentic way to camp. Sleep soundly inside the traditional native tipis.

Our tipis have a wooden floor, beds with covered mattresses and a fire ring.

How to get here... from Sundre

​

This location was formaly called YMCA Camp Gray Jay

​

From Sundre Tim Hortons travel west

on HWY 584 for 8 km to Coal Camp Rd, Range Road 63. This road starts as a paved road and turns into a gravel road. So allow additional time for travelling to gravel road conditions.

Turn left and travel 45 km to Secondary 734.

Turn left and continue for 2.8 km, do not cross the big blue bridge with the blue arches and continue for another 20km to Eagle Creek. 

​

You will pass the Wildhorse Flats location. Keep driving for another 14km. Follow the DIAMOND J SIGN.

You will see a sign on the right side that reads "Diamond J". Turn into the driveway and park in the parking lot.

​

Note: Google maps will take you to our Wildhorse flats location, but if you've booked at Diamond J, continue on another 14km. Follow the Diamond J sign.

How to get here... from Cochrane

​

This location was formaly called YMCA Camp Gray Jay

​

Directions from the Hwy 22 and Hwy 1A intersection in Cochrane:

​

Travel west on hwy 1A 13 km to Hwy 40 north.

Turn right and go 27 km where the pavement turns to gravel and you enter the  Ghost Public  Land Use Zone.

The road is now considered 940 Foresty Trunk Rd.

Travel 54 km to a blue bridge and a T intersection which is Secondary rd 734.  

Turn left towards Wildhorse Provincial Recreation Area.

​

Drive pass the JKL Trail Rides Wildhorse Flats location. Continue on the gravel road west another 14 km to Eagle Creek. You will see a sign on the right side that reads "Diamond J". Turn into the driveway and park in the parking lot.

​
